Devote Your Labors to the Lord – Happy Labor Day weekend.

Posted on September 1, 2018September 1, 2018 by Carl Van Vliet
In 1894 our government made a law designating the first Monday of September as a federal holiday known as Labor day that should be observed as a thank you to those who, because of their labors have made this country great. We celebrate the long weekend as labor day weekend.

To add to that thought; in 1909 the American Federation of Labor made a second designation. They designated the first Sunday in September as Labor Sunday in honor of the fact that God has given each one of us the gifts, talents and abilities to do the things that we do. Deuteronomy 8:18 tells us to remember God who gave us the the ability to get wealth. Psalm 139 in verses 13 through 17 says “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.”

It is God who formed you, fitted you with the skills you now posses and He knew that you would be where you are today, where you will be next year and all the days to come. I want to encourage you today to remember the overlooked day of Labor Sunday this weekend and remember who created you to be uniquely you. And as you return to work next week be grateful for the gifts, talents and abilities He has given you and as Colossians 3:23&24 reminds us, “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”

Have a great Labor Day weekend!
