Posted on February 8, 2019February 9, 2019 by Carl Van Vliet

We live in a world today that many in previous generations can’t recognize, and current generations can’t navigate. A world of compromise and confusion. A world where God’s standard is often mocked by one group, marginalized or justified away by yet another, leaving only a small remnant who stands for holiness. We as a Christian…

Posted on February 6, 2019February 6, 2019 by Carl Van Vliet

This week for our Wednesday Resource I feel like we need to stay in our focus on creating a prayer culture in our homes. Meme Theology – Stepping away from the daily dose of inspiration

Posted on February 2, 2019 by Carl Van Vliet

We are living fully in the “screen age” where more time is spent on a screen than being present in the moment, more time than in print publications such as books or newspapers. I remember the time when the internet was nothing more than dial in bulletin boards and AOL. I remember getting ready for…

Oftentimes Liela and I have parents ask us how to have family discipleship moments. It seems many have large complicated grandiose ideas that they need to do something like write a Bible study complete with Greek and Hebrew word studies and commentary. My response is always the same. KISS. Thats right KEEP IT SUPER SIMPLE….

Posted on January 17, 2019January 17, 2019 by Carl Van Vliet

Back in my youth ministry days we used to do a group activity to teach the premises of the negative effects of gossip and rumors. We would sit all the students in small group circles of about 10 per group and start a secret about someone, via a whisper, in the ear of one student….

Resource for the Week – Catechism

Posted on January 14, 2019 by Carl Van Vliet

I sometimes get strange looks when I talk about catechism. Why does a non-ecumenical, charismatic guy talk about catechism. I get those strange looks from my non-ecumenical friends who have a preconceived mindset or lens (paradigm) that they view the word catechism through. I always have to frame the front end of sharing catechism resources…

The book, The World’s Worst Predictions lists some of history’s all-time prophetic goofs, such as: King George II said in 1773 that the American colonies had little stomach for revolution. Hindsight proved him wrong. An official of the White Star Line, speaking of the firm’s newly built flagship, the Titanic, launched in 1912, declared that the ship…
